Natural Salrose Cobaltion Dolomite
Amazing selected crystalline Salrose specimens with a range of colours and crystal sizes. Strangely, it is mostly commonly considered Pink Calcite or Cobalt Calcite but in fact the material can also potentially be pink Dolomite. Salrose is the common name which is often given to both the Cobalt bearing Dolomite or Calcites which come out of the Congo. It is often difficult to tell the difference between the Calcite or Dolomite hosts, particularly when the specimens are microcrystalline in nature.
Therefore, as a precautionary measure the common name is often used interchangeably to refer to both or either the Calcite or Dolomite forms. Salrose is generally an over arching term used to describe the "pink stuff" often found in the Copper bearing deposits in Southern and Central Africa. Specimens can have associations of Malachite or other commonly occurring Copper based minerals but not in all instances.
